Book review: Keep it under your hat
So enthusiastic for this much-needed book by milliner Jane Fryers, Keep It Under Your Hat: A Little Book of Linings.
As a theatrical and historical milliner, I have a library of reference books on making hats, and honestly, if they even mention linings, it’s minimal information at best.
In contrast, Fryers’ book contains examples/photographs/directions for making a wide range of different kinds of hat linings. She discusses the pros and cons of various fabrics to use, custom versus mass-produced linings, and various methods of installation.
The book includes written instructions, diagrams, and full-color photographs illustrating the wide range of lining styles.
I’m thrilled to add this book to my reference library in my own studio, and I can’t wait to share it with students & assistants.
