Footwear projects
Now that the semester is over, i’m sharing photos of my students’ footwear projects.
This project is about how a costume maker can create accessories and augmentations to fulfill costume design concepts safely and ergonomically, ideally without the need for specialized equipment, when the budget does not allow for custom footwear from a cordwainer.

These spats by Mackenzie Privett turn character shoes into a more elaborate style.
Mackenzie added this ornate laceup shaft to turn pumps into boots.
She stitched it into the pump with a leather needle, pliers, and a thimble.
Bailey Doran was inspired by these buttons to create a pair of sweet cake spats.
Bailey Doran was inspired to create a stage version of the filigree heels worn by the character Nessarose in the film Wicked.

Inclement weather forced final presentations to happen on Zoom.
Once the ice storm was over, I went in to see them in person.
Beautiful work! Which is your favorite?
