Textile Fabric Consultants, Inc.

TFC Inc. website masthead

With the national sewing supply vendor Joann Fabrics out of business now, educators teaching topics in costume, fashion, and textiles find themselves in a difficult position – how are students supposed to acquire yardage and basic tools to use in learning about these topics?

Perhaps where you live there is an independent fabric retailer or a fabric/sewing section at a store like Walmart or Ace Hardware, but that is not the case for many educators. Textile Fabric Consultants Inc. is stepping in to close that gap.

For decades, the company has offered curated swatch collections to assist with teaching material literacy to novice artists and scientists working with textiles. Physical swatches of different types of fabrics help students learn to differentiate between, for example, a velvet and a brocade, or a seersucker and a ticking stripe.

Now they are expanding to offer customized tool kits for educators, so that their students can easily obtain the equipment they need to learn something like sewing or pattern drafting.

Without a local Joann, where can they buy a seam ripper and a variform curve?

TFC Inc. can help! Contact Susan Elliott at the link on their website for assistance: http://textilefabric.com/

Be advised that their website is a year out of date, so you may need to phone, fax, or even snail mail what you need (all listed on their contact page), and they will happily assemble a custom kit for your students or college bookstore to buy.

This is not a sponsored post. I attended a virtual interest meeting for costume educators hosted by TFC Inc., and found what they are offering to be so valuable. I decided to write it up in this blog.
